St. Matthew SCRIP Program
SCRIP is a goofy name for a serious fund raiser! It is a gift card program where you, the customer, purchase cards at face value. The merchants offer a pre-determined discount which then turns into fundraising profit.
Example:
Marsh offers a 5% discount.
You purchase two $50 gift cards and pay $100
SCRIP pays $95 to Marsh
PROFIT = $5.00
In gratitude for your ongoing support, the PFA has maintained a policy of sharing profits 50/50 with the purchasing family.
Example:
PROFIT = $5.00
Family Profit = $2.50
Organizational Profit = $2.50
How well does the program perform?
SCRIP has long been the second largest fund-raiser at St. Matthew following closely behind the annual trash bag sale. In 2007, the program raised over $37,000; in 2008, the program raised over $46,000; in 2009 it raised almost $49,000. Our goal for 2009-2010 school year is to break the $50,000 barrier!
Why should I participate?
Because it’s a fundraiser that earns money for the school and your family! By incorporating the purchase of gift cards into your daily routine, you earn money for the groceries, gas, dining, and shopping that you already do. There are over 70 merchants represented in our on-site store with an additional 50 vendors available for order. We’ve created a quick access system to meet your expected, and sometimes unexpected, shopping needs!
How do I do it?
We work hard to make the program as user friendly as possible! We have an on-line ordering system that can be accessed via the PFA page on the school website or directly at http://www.shopwithscrip.com. Once you’re in the system, utilize “Order Now” for inventory carried in our store that is immediately available. Utilize “Order Later” for inventory that is ordered weekly (ordered Monday, delivered Wednesday). During school, your order is sent home in your child’s backpack. During the summer, we will call you when your order is in.
We also have an on-site store in the Gathering Space of the church. The store is open 7 days a week with the following hours:
Monday through Friday: 7:30 – 8:15 AM
Friday afternoons: 2:30 – 3:15
After all Masses (5:00 Saturday; 7:30, 9:00, and 11:30 Sunday)
The SCRIP Program is a year-round program available during the school year as well as the summer months.
Can I participate if I don’t have children at St. Matthew School?
Absolutely! Everyone is welcome to participate! Families of children attending St. Matthew School support the Parent-Faculty Association (PFA) with the organizational profits from their purchases. Families not attending St. Matthew School have the option to have organizational profits designated for the PFA or St. Matthew Parish. Parents, Grandparents, Aunts, Uncles, friends, all are welcome!
How do I track my earnings?
You are able to see your purchase history with our on-line system. Also, the program does semi-annual close-outs with profit statements distributed in December and May. As a part of that profit statement process, you have the opportunity to designate an approved use for your family profit from the following options:

Earnings are forwarded to your Girl Scout or Boy Scout account in your scout’s name. |
Parish Contribution |
Earnings are paid to St. Matthew Church. |
School (PFA) |
Earnings are paid to St. Matthew School PFA. |
Youth Ministry |
Earnings are paid to the St. Matthew Parish Youth Ministry program. |
If you don’t make a selection for your profit before the November 30th close-out date, default selections will be applied. If you are a St. Matthew School family, the default selection is My Tuition Fund. If you are a St. Matthew Parish family, the default selection is My SCRIP Rebates.
What payment methods do you accept?
SCRIP accepts cash or check as payment for gift cards. Although our program is growing, our volume is not great enough to offset the administrative expense of handling credit cards. Additionally, as a fund raising program, we have long held the philosophy that St. Matthew families should not incur debt on behalf of a fundraiser.
What do I do if I just can’t figure all this out!?!
SCRIP has a wonderful team of volunteers to assist you! You can stop in at the SCRIP office whenever the store is open. Our school office staff is very well versed in how to use the SCRIP program and they can help you as well. Speaking of volunteers, we’d love to have you join our team! If you have an hour or so a week to help, please send Mary an e-mail with your contact information and we’ll get you signed up! Don’t forget our weekend hours after Masses as well. We could really use additional volunteers for these shifts.
